What are the two main types of trees? I know there are conifers, which are evergreens, but what are the ones called that shed their leaves annually? Thanks!

  1. A different breakdown is Gymnosperms and Angiosperms.

Gymnosperms are plants which have seeds that are not enclosed.  Most of the gymnosperms are evergreens, such as a pine.  However, some are deciduous, like the bald cypress or ginkgo.  So, NOT all conifers are evergreens.

Angiosperms are plants that have there seeds enclosed.  And, the angiosperms are deciduous.  A good example of this is the oak family, which have acorns.

    Hope this helps.
