  1. The odds will reflect whatever the likely outcome is on the event that you are gambling on.

Although you can trade out your bets for a win win situation although it might not be as exciting as straightforward gambling.

  2. The Gambling Commission in the UK carried out the British Gambling Prevalence Survey in 2007.

It found that 65% of the UK population (about 32 million people) have participated in some form of gambling in the past year.

    The most popular games were:

    - The National Lottery Draw (57%)

    - Scratchcards (20%)

    - Betting on horse races (17%) and

    - Playing slot machines (14%)

Only 6% of people used the Internet to gamble. Out of those, 3% did actual online gaming, and 4% used Internet bookies.

There's not much in the way of statistics about incomes from gambling etc. About all there is is that the UK gambling industry turnover for 2001 was £2bn, and that rose to over £50bn in 2005.

The only published odds that you can find are for matching numbers in the National Lottery:

    - 6 Numbers 1 in 13,983,816

    - 5 Numbers & Bonus Ball 1 in 2,330,636

    - 5 Numbers 1 in 54,201

    - 4 Numbers 1 in 1,032

    - 3 Numbers 1 in 57

    - 2 Numbers 1 in 8

    - 1 Number 1 in 2
