Question:

What are the White Sox THINKING OF WITH THE TRADE FOR GRIFFEY JR.!

Honestly, where would the WHite Sox play him! I don't want to get rid of Dye or Quentin, or even Swisher! They have all contributed to the team, especially Dye and Quentin! And Griffey has limited time in the MLB and could retire! I don't know who the Sox gave up for this, but I just don't see this trade working! Griffey may help, but he's just a big waste of money for just a couple of years to play for the White Sox! And this was just as GM Kenny Williams was getting on my good side! Now, this trade is getting me mad! And even if none of the outfielders go, where would Griffey play??? I don't want him replacing anyone on the team! Sorry about this rant.....

So, what are your thoughts? Good or bad for the White Sox, and where would Griffey play?

  1. I really don't understand why the Sox would try to get Griffey The Sox outfield is full  and Thome's the DH so he would have to play as a reserve or play center and Swish and Konerko platoon at First. I think they should go for Brian Fuentes personally to help keep that bullpen strong

  2. I don't get it where the fans think they know better than the team and front office.....  They're not the ones spending millions of dollars to sign the player's paychecks.....  If the White Sox have underperforming or not enough players to DH, I'd understand, but if their sluggers already play a position and are guaranteed to be healthy while playing the outfield, then what's the harm adding another proven slugger to the team?

I'm totally supportive of that move and believe that it's a stroke of genius moving Ken Griffey Jr. to the AL so that he can add to his HR total and provide runs and hits for the White Sox.

  3. Beats the heck outta me. The White Sox have all the DH they need with Thome.

I expect Jr. will approve, because in Chicago he's got a chance at playing into October, and he certainly doesn't have that in Cincinnati.

  4. Griffey at first would be a big upgrade over Konerko.

    Konerko has lost it.

  5. Well, they said he could play the outfield or possibly first base.

They said he could play first since Konerko has been hurt a lot. It's just what they said on ESPN

  6. this is good for the White Sox IF he plays well. they are only trading Masset who hasn't performed well and a minor league pitcher. Konerko is only hitting .190 since the all-star break and they are planning on moving Swisher to first. Konerko won't ride the bench i think there will just be a little more subbing for the White Sox.

    Hope it works!

    South side rules!!!!!!!!!

  7. trying to make sense of it myself. how many DH's can you use at once?

  8. yea, this sounds like junk.

my guess is they will give up minor league talent.

why do we need a .245 BA?????

    Why not trade for Ichiro!

We need that + .300 BA.

That is a trade I can get behind

  9. It just doesn't make sense!  If Guillen says he will let Konerko work his way out of his slump, and we already have a full outfield with Quentin and Dye being no-brainers and Swish rotating with Wise and Anderson, then we seem to have no place for him.  If Guillen decides to bench Paulie and put Swish at 1st, Griffey could go in center.  But eventually Konerko will get back to normal and Swish will go back to center and Griffey is benched?  None of this really makes sense, but I will trust in Kenny for now.

  10. It makes no sense at all to trade anything half decent for Griffey considering he's more than likely gone at the end of the season.

In addition to that they alrready have enough slumping sluggers on their team.

I can only suspect that those in the White Sox front office figures Griffey would fit right in.

    Nick Swisher .230

    Jim Thome .256

    Paul Konerko .214

    Joe Crede .255

    Ken Griffey Jr. .245

Who's next? Jack Cust with his 19 hr's and .226 average.

  11. well he wouldn't take playing time away from Quintin or Dye....he would take playing time away from Swisher and Konerko.  He would only play against right handed pitching.  Not a horrible move, if they don't give up any good prospects.

  12. well put it this way. griffey is a great player. of course hes not going to be like the old griffey, but you guys caught him at the right time hes batting 317. after the allstar break and is riding a 12 game hitting streak! GO WITH THE FLOW! he hits better in the american league anyway!
