  1. Any cardio workout will get your heart pumping. This includes running, jump roping, dancing, repeated spike approaches, etc. If you're out of breath, chances are that you are performing a cardio work out.

Cardio work outs allow blood to flow easier, which means the heart doesn't have to push so hard to get blood through your body. This makes all cardio workouts gradually easier. It also lessens your chances of a heart attack during play and developing heart disease.

Pushups and situps are alot like weightlifting. They work a few parts of the body, but don't require the heart to speed up much. Pushups will strengthen your upper body and abs. But mainly your biceps. Your biceps are used in the arm-swing to get you off of the ground for a spike and actually putting power on the ball. Situps work your abs, which is used mainly in blocking and spiking. You are supposed to crunch your abs when you block to make sure the ball goes down from your hands instead of powering back over your fingertips.

I suggest calf stretches as well, to increase jump height. This includes jump roping. Do it a few times on each foot, then with both feet, then skip rope. Also, the tip-toe-stretch is guaranteed to increase your jump height. Basically, the tip-toe-stretch is like standing regular, then going to your tip toes. Make sure your feet are close together and do this over and over until it burns. Do it rapidly, and if neccesary add some weight to your shoulders like bean bags or half gallons of milk. Etc.

    Good luck!

  2. Well, doing sit ups builds your hitting power because you use mostly that muscle to snapp your body.  Pushups are always good to increase your power.  Any leg exercises are amazing for building your jumping abilities, which are a must when it comes to this sport.  I would say do 50 pushups everyday, 200 situps everyday, and jumprope just to build your all around stamina and strength.
