i play two forehands - meanng no double back hanbd, or one handed back hand, but i play with both of my arms and play forehands on each side

ive trained both of them equally and i can do pretty good shots.

i also have a quick reaction to where the ball is going to so i can change the position of the racket between both hands pretty fast

so exactly wat are the advantages? disadvantages are also ok!

  1. Monica Seles was the first famous, successful player to play that way. Marian Bartoli also does

The advantages to it is you don't have to change your grip, You have more power and can create more angles/

The disadvantages are its harder to do, It makes shots like smashing and vollying harder if you are not accomplished with playing with just the one hand.

Also its more straining on your body(especially your shoulders) also its harder to adjust and improvise playing this way.

If you are a shorter player it can be really effective, if you are taller it can be hard

I is a rather unique way of playing and if it works for you then there is no problems with it!

PS-Oh yeah you say you have quick reactions-That is great and essential to playing in that way

haha you sound like a dangerous player!!!

  2. GSTOKES didn't understand what your talking about, and there are some disadvantages.

The one that's sticks out is the one you addressed in you question, changing your grip.  When you play someone really good and they hit with a lot of pace, you may not have time to switch your grip.  However if you can then great.

Another disadvantage is playing the net.  If you play doubles, or come to net at all in singles you'll have to use one hand the whole time, or both hands the whole time.  And believe me you wont have enough time to switch your grip.  Even if you don't plan on coming to net in singles, you have to get a drop shot and stay up there.

Not having a backhand isn't necessarily an advantage, i use a two handed backhand that's more consistent than my forehand.

If  you can play well like this, then i would say go for it, but if one of these weaknesses if exposed it may be time to change.

    Good luck

  3. I can't think of ANY disadvantages to having 2 forehands.  That said, for some players, the backhand is the stronger shot.  It was certainly the case for Stefan Edberg, and is the case for Marat Safin as well.

The biggest disadvantage, I would think, is the time that it would take to develop both sides.  I think it would take an incredible amount of time and discipline to make both sides a forehand.  During the time it takes to develop these shots, other players will just develop a backhand, and improve their other shots.

  4. The advantage is that you will have two forehands.. although forehands aren't always better than backhands so this isn't necessarily an advantage.  One of your forehands will probably be better than the other, so you will still have a weaker side.

The main problem I see is with volleys.  As another person said, at the net you wont have enough time to switch grips.  You will have to learn a backhand volley.
