3 ANSWERS

  1. Advantage: Very less side effects

    Disadvantage: Slow process

  2. Advantages- possibly total resolution of the condition, or at least relief of symptoms, no side effects/interaction with any other drug or therapy.

Disadvantages- None significant- generally requires trained professional to find precise remedy to totally resolve (or a good bit of research/study on the patient's part)- takes a holistic approach considering every aspect of the person mentally and physically. Depending on homeopath- may advise you avoid drinking coffee, strong flavors/odors such as certain toothpaste, mouthwash, and aromatherapy oils for the entire duration of treatment. Also, should wait 30 minutes (15 or 20 according to some) before and after administering the remedy before eating or drinking (other than pure water)- it is believed to be absorbed sublingually.

  3. ADVANTAGES

Preston Bradley said, "The world basically and fundamentally is constituted on the basis of harmony. Everything works in co-operation with something else." One of the first characteristics that attracted me to homeopathy was its cooperative spirit as a healing modality.

    * Homeopathy is reciprocal: Consultations involve collaboration between the homeopath and client.

    * It is complementary: Without interfering with other healing modalities, homeopathy helps speed a return to health by supporting the defense mechanism—of which the immune system is a part—in its efforts to self-heal.

    * It is popular: Many well-known people were patrons of homeopathy, including William James, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, John D. Rockefeller, Louisa May Alcott, and Daniel Webster. William Cullen Bryant, noted journalist and poet, was the President of the Homeopathic Medical Society of New York City and County. There are homeopaths in practically every country in the world, and homeopathy is particularly popular in India, England, France, the former Soviet republics, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. Homeopathy is well-known throughout the United Kingdom. The royal family has been under homeopathic care since the 1830’s, and the Queen is the patron of the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital and the British Homeopathic Association.

    * It is holistic: Because homeopathy is a complete system of health care, someone seeking help for depression will notice improvement in his or her physical problems while under constitutional care. A person desiring help with metabolic problems will notice that his or her anxieties have concomitantly lessened.

    * It is empowering: The long-term goal of homeopathy is to return each individual to a state of health, so that even homeopathy is no longer necessary.

    * It is accessible: While a sophisticated healing modality in the hands of a professionally trained homeopath, first-aid and acute care homeopathy is easily grasped and applied by consumers in helping their family, friends and pets stay well.

    * It is natural: All homeopathic remedies originate in natural substances from each of the kingdoms of nature. The few from the animal kingdom are, for the most part, made from animal products.

    * It is nonviolent: No sentient beings are harmed in the preparation process. All "testing" (provings) are scientifically carried out on healthy humans, without detriment and often with benefit to the people involved. Animal experimentation is neither required nor desired.

    * It is nontoxic: Side effects do not result from homeopathic remedies. Remedies are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and earned their own category primarily because there have been no poisonings or deaths attributed to homeopathic remedies since homeopathy’s inception. (Besides this, remedies taste good.)

    * It is environmentally friendly: One drop of a substance prepared homeopathically provides tens of thousands of doses and can supply a homeopathic pharmacy for decades.

    * It is, for this reason, extremely economical: Remedies used by Samuel Hahnemann—the doctor who developed homeopathy almost 200 years ago—are still effective today. A $6.00 vial can last a decade or more. I still use remedies in my home that were purchased 20 years ago.

    * It is precise: One homeopathic remedy is administered at a time, despite the fact that someone might have different problems. For example, a person with arthritis, high blood pressure, eczema and menstrual headaches would need only one remedy at a time, with the eventual resolution of each of these problems, usually in the reverse order of their appearance.

    * It is timeless: Homeopathy’s philosophy and tenets are as applicable and effective today as they were when homeopathy first emerged as a cooperative healing discipline.

Homeopathy is such a welcome change for many people because, in stimulating a person’s intrinsic self-healing properties, it not only improves the individual’s main problem, it also results in an increase in energy and improvement of other health problems that had been accepted as permanent. Because of this, homeopathy is enthusiastically embraced by those who pursue it long enough to experience these results. Unfortunately, what often follows is that all other forms of health care, in particular conventional care, are rejected.

As you become healthier, you will find that you do not have the types of health problems that previously led you either to doctors or to drug stores for the latest over-the-counter medication. This should not prevent your continued relationship with your primary care physician, therapist or dentist (or veterinarian, in the case of pets). Some people become zealous about homeopathy, to the exclusion of everything else. There is a time and place for everything. Remember that homeopathy is part of a larger community of healing resources.

As you become healthier, however, you will be able to place conventional medicine in perspective and make use of its true value, rather than reflexively or desperately insisting on drugs for minor complaints.

    DISADVANTAGES

    * It's not covered by insurance.

    * Misinformation and misunderstanding:

Homeopathy is unrelated to any other alternative or conventional healing modality. While some practitioners who advertise homeopathy combine other tools, such as Reiki, muscle testing (kinesiology), hair testing, radionics, herbs, acupuncture, acupressure, chelation therapy, etc., nothing else is classical homeopathy, and nothing else is required.

Homeopathy as a profession is most similar to the fields of acupuncture and chiropractic, in that it is a comprehensive, standalone healing modality. While other practitioners might hand out homeopathic remedies, the person receiving the remedy is not necessarily being treated with homeopathy. Homeopathy is the philosophy for giving a remedy, not the remedy itself.

While vaccines are not uncommonly cited as an example of how homeopathy works, the comparison is inaccurate, as vaccines bypass all the defense mechanisms of the body. After a lengthy consultation and considerable research, a homeopath recommends a remedy that will gently yet certainly stimulate your own self-healing mechanism. A homeopath understands that each symptom (mental/emotional or physical) is the body's best efforts to cure a deeper imbalance, not the problem itself.
