  1. Advantages:

    - Gives us a good strategic ally. geographically wise

    - Provides with potential military partner

    Disadvantages

    - With our current treaties with indonesia, even if they pick a fight they should have or wont win, we are abliged to help them

    - Any conflicts we get into with indonesia may be disputed by other allies (eg East Timor)

    - Puts preasure on our economy & military resources
