  1. there are both advantages and disadvantages to this

    advantages:keeps population down, cheaper etc.

disadvantages: couples may want more, lonely child etc.

also want i think is bad with the one child policy is that if both parents are only children they are allowed to have two children to replace them, which is alright its just that its unfair to families who arent only chldren

i do however think that it is a good idea to keep population down

im not quite sure how i feel because on both sides of the arguements there are good points and bad points

    :)

  2. From a global point of view, the more people have one child policy, the more we can reduce the global population. So that we can avoid the food problem.

Conversely speaking, the more people have the policy, the less we will have economic growth. Because of the shotage for the work force.

  3. Advantages: Probably cheaper lol

    Disadvantages: Kid will be lonely

I think its bad bcoz u shld be allowed to choose how many kids you have instead of having a stupid law saying just one. Still, I guess it's the only thing that stops china exploding lol

  4. If every couple in China had two children, instead of one, from the time the One child policy was introduced, then China would have been in poverty now. The one child policy ensures that China's citizens have a good standered of living in the future. China is a large country with an even larger population, and the Government is attempting to keep all it's resourses so people are fighting for food, jobs, education ect.

A disadvantage is the first generation won't have siblings, and the second generation won't have siblings or first cousins. Many children will be spoiled, resulting in the "little emperors". Another disadvantage is that women have always been considered the lower s*x in China, despite the Chinese Government trying to change it. Because of this couples who have a baby girl sometimes kill or abandon their child, so they can try again for a boy. Because of the large number of infantcide and abandoned girls China now has an unbalanced populaton, with a lot more boys than girls. This results in a high number of girls going into prositution. As well as this many adults go into jobs as "child-catches" to put it simply, many couples in China have their son's kidnapped and given to much richer couples, and some "sell" their daughters to couples willing to look after them. The Government mostly decides to look past these "Child-catches", some go to prison, but the Government realises it's an easy way to get money for it's poor citizens, so most continue in the business.

There are incentives for the couples who only have one child, they are given free medical check-ups for their child, their child is given the best education and the women get's an extra three months maternity leave. People who live in the countryside of China are less regulated. If you live in the rural areas you can have a second child and not much pressure is placed on you to abort it, this is because the Government understands the situation of farmers who need more children to work on the land. You can also have a second child if your first was disabled in any way.

Perhaps I should point out that the population of China grew rapidly in the 50s and 60s because the ruler in charge at the time believed a larger population meant a stronger country. Couples were encouraged to have as many children as possible, which is why the population grew out of control and the One Child Policy was introduced.

I suppose it the eyes of countries like the UK and USA it's looked upon as unfair because the Human rights are disregarded. Women who have another child are pressured to abort it, their rights whcih they recieved when they had the first child are taken away and they have to pay extra for medical bills and education, ect. Many women are forced to be sterilised after they have had one child.

It seems bad but in reality, there isn't another way to keep the population at bay.

Personally, I dislike China anyway, because they seem to have a lack of Human Rights, not just with the One child policy but with other things too. However, that's just my opinion.

The comminists who are ruling China have helped raise the status of women since they have been in power. Which can only be a good thing.

  5. There will be less over-population for a one child policy and less competition for good school seats. This is the advantage.

Disadvantage is the country will slowly be depleted of its own citizens to drive the economy. There will be more senior citizens than the younger ones. The population is aging.

A one child policy is bad from the perspective of the building of the child's character. He/She will be given all attention by the family and interaction with his/her peers will be much reduced.  Each one of these generation will tend to focus on themselves first than others and will lead to frequent conflict when they join the workforce.
