Crude oil price have increased tremendously. The price inflation rate is almost 100% in 6 months and predictions are that it may touch 200 to 250$ a barrel. With this in mind, the interest in hybrid/electric cars is getting more attention. What would be the pros and cons of buying the only one available in India in the electric car segment: the Reva?

  1. Neat looking car if they would sell it in the United States I sure would be looking into getting one

    .. . . ..

So if you got a chance go look and ask to take it for a  test drive to see

    ..  ...

Bet you will step onto the parking lot like a kid with the car keys to the family car for the first time

    . .. .

I see the battery can be 80% charged in 2.5 hours and 100% charged in 8 hours the only draw back

    .. . ..

To remove I see that you can do it but you better have some car knowledge and a good set of metrics handy in the garage

  2. the advantages of reva is that u won't pollute the environment and that it's price is affordable but at the same time it is too small a car .if u are 4 of u then it might be a right a choice.

  3. Well, at least the thing seems to exist, which is unusual for electric cars.  It goes as far as 80km and as fast as 80 km/hr, but an electric car cannot do both.  Precisely how far you have to go to accomplish that 80 km range isn't specified.

I rather doubt that the battery can be removed readily or carried easily, so your apartment-complex question is actually a very good one.  You'd probably have to make a special arrangement with the building management to run an extension cord and somehow pay for the power you use.

But it's been on the market since 2001, which speaks to its reliability, and perhaps it's something of a solution in certain cases.  But since your country allows its use, it probably also allows the use of other 'quadricycles,' and there are some two-cylinder diesel micro-cars available there which can probably be operated with something approaching the same economy.

  4. Reva is a great car to own now.

    Pros:-

    1. It doesn't need any petrol/diesel.

    2. It's low maintainence.

    3. It is easy to navigate, especially in narrow, overcrowded Indian roads.

    Cons:-

    1. It is not a very fast car.

    2. It can seat only 2-3 people.
