  1. The disadvantages were (not, repeat not ,are)the agony and the sleepless night that many spent over the uncertainty that prevailed till recently as to whether the

government would survive the Left blackmail. Now that, that part is over, any other disadvantages that may surface later, are seriously being hunted for by all the parties that voted against the government in the Confidence Motion affair.

As for the advantages, the PM and all those who supported the Con Motion have repeatedly asserted that the country has at long last solved the power

shortage problem once for all.But then the Deal is still to be inked and the conditionalities have to be overcome

There are a whole load of formalities to be worked out before our stalwarts sit down to discuss as to who all should be awarded the contracts for supply, erection and commissioning of the reactors. Then there is the question of continued and uninterrupted supply of nuclear materials to power the reactors. After all these details are finalised(wonder who will finalise the kick backs) formal orders will be placed for another whole load of things to be imported. Then the construction etc.

Meanwhile,as is common with all BIG DEALS,glitches will crop up needing to be tackled quickly.God Only knows when the Juice will flow out of the reactors and when it will reach the unlit villages, the closed and new factories, etc.I find it mind boggling to list even the

chronology of events that are likely to take place(I am

just a layman who does not know his behind from his elbow as far as the other major and minor details to be worked out before everyone can heave a sigh of relief that it is all done) before we can start the talk of the real advantages that will accrue from the Nuclear Deal.By

the time the first unit of power flows out of the first

Reactor,I MAY BE GETTING READY TO MEET MY MAKER.

Do you know something?Answering this question has given me a great idea.I will seriously try to secure admission in an institution for doing my PhD on this subject.Do you know a good guide?

  2. Advantages

    * Nuclear power costs about the same as coal, so it's not expensive to make.

    * Does not produce smoke or carbon dioxide, so it does not contribute to the greenhouse effect.

    * Produces huge amounts of energy from small amounts of fuel.

    * Produces small amounts of waste.

    * Nuclear power is reliable.

    Disadvantages

    * Although not much waste is produced, it is very, very dangerous. It must be sealed up and buried for many years to allow the radioactivity to die away.

    * Nuclear power is reliable, but a lot of money has to be spent on safety - if it does go wrong, a nuclear accident can be a major disaster.

People are increasingly concerned about this - in the 1990's nuclear power was the fastest-growing source of power in much of the world. In 2005 it was the second slowest-growing
