  1. I remember talking about this topic in US History.  It's in the... Madison letters, maybe.  I think it started with an M.  He discussed the idea that elected judges would do whatever necessary to be elected, sacrificing their actual points of view until after re-election.  The judges would do whatever the people liked to get elected, instead of following the rules.
