What are the advantages and drawbacks of a fixed crossover subwoofer?

Hi. Subwoofers are speakers that supplement the main speakers and only play the lowest frequencies,the lowest two octaves below 80 HZ .To make the bass less directional and blend better you need to cross it over,or transition to the woofer at a low frequency.So it depends at what frequency the subwoofer is fixed,.and the bass cut off frequency of your main speaker .
