  1. well they are certainly a good thing for warming you but ive noticed that i dont feel it cooling you down like its "supposed to"

  2. There are a couple of reasons, though they're not specific to Under Armor and really apply to any compressive performance fabrics.

The first benefit is the compression, the tight fit helps prevent muscle fatigue, cramps, and pulls and also helps to keep the muscles warm.

The second major benefit is the moisture transport mechanism. What looks like a single layer of fabric is actually two layers, the layer that contacts your skin is designed to pull moisture away from your skin and transport it to the other side of the fabric where the second layer picks it up and is designed for quick drying... allowing the moisture to evaporate into the air passing over your body... keeping you cooler and more comfortable.

The difference between hot and cold gear is primarily the inner layer of fabric, in cold gear its a thicker more fleece-like material for greater warmth... otherwise it functions just like the heat-gear.

A side benefit, but a good one IMO, is the overall comfort and feel. I wear cold gear under my snowboarding gear in the winter and its so much more comfortable than what most snowboarding companies make. It took Burton years to get the idea and start making similar base layers. Ditto with heat gear in the summer... If you play football, basketball, baseball, soccer, track, biking, whatever... gear just slides on your base layer doesnt bind up under it. As a plus, UA makes sport specific gear for most big team sports... Shirts with grip for shoulder pads, compression shorts with slider pads for base/softball, etc..
