There are some uses for printers still, such as:

1. Printing your photos from a digital camera

2. Printing tickets for movies or a plane ticket

3. Printing directions from Yahoo Maps or Google Maps

However, the printer is fading quickly these days as all the above can be done without a printed copy. And ink these days is very expensive.

The main one I appreciate is being able to write clearly enough for me to read it, I can't sometimes understand my own writing when I have done it in a hurry, and I can write much quicker on the keyboard than with a pen, even though I am a dud at typing.

Mostly to disseminate documents and posters so they can be read without a computer. Useful to mark up stuff with a pen etc. I dig your drift though, my printer stands idle for months, but its also a scanner which I use mostly to fax documents. A printer on it own who probably be a waste of money unless you need to use it for reasons above. You can also use printers to print digital photos if you get the right stationary.

You don't have to go to a public place to print out your documents.

You can print out anything at anytime you want and not wait for the local office superstore to open.

With the right software, you can set it up to print all types of things...banners, cards, pictures, labels, etc...
