Hi all,

I have a plan to do MBA from an online college, but before taking admission I want to know about the advantages of distance learning education so I can see if it’s best for me. I’ve never done it before and it will be a major decision in my life. Please help if you have any information on this. Thanks for your help.

  2. I'm doing online courses at my local college right now...and I like it. It's hard to not have a professor you can talk to in person, but if you're good at learning by yourself...they're totally the way to go. Just make sure you have the drive to complete it, or it's a waste of money. I log on at work and do my homework. :)

EDIT: To the person above me....there are online degrees you can get from accredited universities....such as University of Phoenix.

  3. It offers the convenience of being able to work around your schedule.  It can be a little easier than lecture classes and it can be a little harder than lecture classes.  Harder -- you get not cues from the professor about what to take note of, and if you learn well by hearing a lecture, it's very different.  You MUST read all texts.  I think it takes a little longer than lecture-style class because you have to do all the work.  On the other hand, for the most part (in my experience) tests can be a little easier because they are open book - but then professors like to ask questions that are direct quotes from the text.  Ever try hunting for one exact phrase in 80 pages of text -- on the clock?

It really comes down to a trade off of convenience.  I prefer lecture classes, but in some instances it is just more convenient to take classes online. I'm a single mom and I have to work around my daughter's schedule.  If it weren't for online classes it would take me a lot longer to finish.  I can take 2 classes this summer because I can do them online while I'm home with my daughter.  During semester, it allows me to take on-campus classes while she's in school and fill out my schedule online.

It can also save a fortune in gas!  The savings in gas makes online classes at my school cheaper than on-campus classes even though they are more per credit hour.

  4. Jobs don't take online colleges seriously.  So, if they have to choose between you and someone from a normal college, you're going to lose.  But, they're better than nothing.

  5. You don't have to drive to class. but, its not a real degree from an accredited university. Its less impressive to an employer.
