  1. Migration in or out of a population could be responsible for a change in allele frequencies. Immigration may also result in the addition of new alleles to that gene pool of a particular species or population.  It can increase the chances of a population to survive environmental changes that would otherwise harm it.


  2. Gene flow is the transfer of genes from one population to another of the same species, as by migration or the dispersal of seeds and pollen.

    Disadvantage  -

    Over time, reproductive isolation can lead to genetic differences between two populations. Gene flow between populations limits this genetic divergence, serving to inhibit the development of separate species out of the two separated populations.

    Advantage - If genes are carried to a population where those genes previously did not exist, gene flow can be a very important source of genetic variation.
