  1. you get the puck into the opposing team's zone which gives you the chance for a line change, and you don't risk getting stripped of the puck on your way in letting the other team get an odd man break.

  2. well as don cherry says all the time "kids dump in the puck when you're trying to clear". it doesn't matter as much if it gets called as icing, because atleast it allows for a breather, and reset up for the chasing team.

but the dump in is a great tactic that allows for the puck to be in the opposite zone, and if the dumpee team is lucky, they'll get one player to recover the puck and allow for a set up oppertunity for that team.

  3. Your always putting the puck into the opposing team's end.

  4. if you dump the puck a lot and you're up by a lot of points - it's a good way to waste time. plus, it's good for line changes. let's you have enough time to get the men off the ice for a fresh batch.

  5. it gives you a chance to spread out the defense and take over the zone, once you get control of the puck that is. It also gives you a chance to set up plays and positions to put the puck in the net! It also gives you the opportunity for a line change with out the opposition up in your kool aid!

  6. If you turn the puck over right on the opposing teams blue line it can very easily be an odd man rush back to your own net, dumping the puck in makes that much harder.

It also allows all of your players to enter the zone and get set up.

  7. If you turn the puck over it will normally be behind your opponents goal. Thus making it more difficult to score...
