  1. TRADEMARK

Cultures that emphasize the right to private ownership take trademarks very seriously. In cultures in which individual recognition and rights are emphasized trademarks are seen as an important tool in protecting those rights.

Rules relating to trademarks vary from country to country.

Trademark regulations have become a major issue in international trade negotiation. The name of a firm or product and the shape of a product are seen as powerful communication tools by business. Businesspeople must understand the legal background and cultural ramifications and develop an awareness of trademarks as communication emblems that warrant protection.  They need to realize that there is no time limitation for a trademark or brand name.  Recently, some European countries have argued that several regional products — Champagne sparkling wine, Parmesan Cheese, Cheddar Cheese— should have the protection of trademarks.
