  1. Every agricultural produce has it's by products whether it is plant or animal. For example in paddy it's grain is the main product as rice, where as the straw is the by product, husk of grain is also by product.

  2. The long and the short of it is that for everything that one produces on the farm you will have a lot of left over material and in general there will be considerably more left over byproducts than that which you produce. And there in is the edge especially for the organic farmer or real enterprising farmer. For the corn grower there are cobs and stalks, for the grain producers there is straw, the dairy industry needs to disperse a whole lot of manure in some way to protect water resources as with poultry farmers. Most agro concerns have a byproduct to deal with, some more than others. The trick is to either find a market for it, or to recycle/ reuse/ reduce. If you have more than one crop then a lot of green or brown plant waste can be a mulch or compost. One needs to take care though that disease issues are kept in mind, hence multiple crops are considered. One won't use mulches frequently for the same crop as the problem of inoculum to host specific crops is a real issue, it goes to another crop. With this in mind, an enterprising farmer knows before hand what byproducts are available and counts on them, planing to use them by selecting a specific other crop. A wheat grower might second crop strawberries and use hay mulch in their management or preparing a market in the case of a dairyman who bulk sales manure to bag for gardeners in the booming garden center trade. On the subject of manures, huge savings can be realized by setting up bio gas digesters to offset the huge utility bills of a farm; gas and electric are a primary major cost to businesses especially those on the extremes of climate and also distance from sources.
