since you did not tell the sound they make I can't be at all sure but if they sound like Katti-did they are called Kattie dids if they have more of a static dddddd sound they are cididas.

If the sound is a bird going whip poor wll it is a whiporwill otherwise called Bobwhite or Quail (their day sound is noye like Bob White a 2 note vs 3 note)  If t goes sort of between ahoot and a cooo it is an owl.

If it howels and sounds like an old woman screaming in pain it is a bobcat.   Stay away from it and keep pets in.
