  1. It sounds like you have some research to do.  I'm sure your teacher would be glad to help you out with these initial questions.

  2. In truth, those " alternative gender roles " in other cultures turn out to be tail data on any ones normal distribution. Here is an evolutionary anthropologist to read, one who does not have a ideological agenda. " The Evolution of Human Sexuality ", by Donald Symons. You need to get " real " about your education and become scientifically informed. Anthropology can not do this.

  3. The anthropological theories of gender and s*x roles is nonsense.

  4. Are you by any chance taking anthro 101 with tom fricke? I have a similar paper due tomorrow.

  5. Anthropological theories of gender basically are that gender is a role type in a culture.  Most cultures go straight down s*x lines for their gender differences, but that is not always the case.  There is a Native American tribe out west (forgive me for forgetting the name) that actually does recognize more then 2 genders, with men and women sometimes occupying the same gender role.

Remember, the 1st dictionary definition under gender mentions nothing about s*x, until it uses examples.  As Yoda once said "You must unlearn what you have learned."  It's a very interesting subject, just have an open mind.
