  2. n/w designing and administration in lan's and man's

  3. The topology of a network is the way the network is layed out.

Different net work topologies or designs have different advantages and disadvantages. eg :

Mesh - all machines are connected to every other machine.  Expanding the next work is a royal pain in the butt, but removing any single machine on the network does take it down.

Ring - all mchines on the network are connected one after the other.  The first and last two are connected togather to form a complete ring.  Remove one machine to while ring goes down.

LInear - All the machines are connect in a long line.  Adding machine easy.  breaking the line means that some machine cannot communicate.

Tree - LIke ether net.  This is the most common topology in use today. A very scalabe network topology adding and removing machine is very easy.
