What are the bad areas in and around New York City?

low overpass and robber or murder are not good thing.

Avoid te cross Bronx expressway, besides the road having axle busting pot holes, the worst areas are on all sides!

You'll be fine.  Hundreds of thousands of people pass through the city every day without incident.  The business districts are usually busy enough that criminals avoid them and look to less populated areas where they won't be so easily noticed.

As for naming the bad areas, they can all be bad.  Don't think you'll have any issue with low overpasses on the major roads.  There are trucks all over NYC every day, low clearance bridges are few and far between.
