What are the basic law/ code of ethics for journalism?

I read in the website below there are many rules and regulations to follow to write an article.

Do journalist really follow all those rules? What can you write and what you cannot write when it comes to reporting a fact.

Years ago, the code of ethics was followed by most journalists, who took pride in their craft.

It seems that in this day and age, the rule of thumb is get the story, get it first, get it in print, or broadcast first, and if it is not true, print a retraction in the classified section where no one will see it.
