  1. You can either play 15's, 12's or 7's.

These numbers represent the amount of players on each team.Union Rugby usually starts will collegiate or youth teams in 15's.

There are many laws (not rules; laws.) to Rugby.

The Numbers on the player's jersey refers to the position a player plays.

A good site to look for would be  :

  2. good body build up game

  3. There are normally fifteen players on a team, 7 backs ( numbers 9-15) and eight forwards (numbers 1-8).

    positions= 1. Prop 2. Hooker 3. Prop 4.Lock 5. Lock 6. Flanker 7. Flanker 8. No.8 9. Scrum Half 10. Stand Off 11. Wing 12. centre 13. Centre 14. Wing 15. full Back

Forwards tend to be bigger, stronger players while backs normally provide pace and skill. Forwards are the participants in scrums and lineouts and normally in rucks and mauls.

Maul- The ball is above the ground with members from each team fighting for the ball. Players may not collapse the maul as it is dangerous and must stay onside.

Ruck- A player has been tackled and the ball is on the ground. Players entering the ruck must stay on their feet and must enter from behind the ruck on their side.

There are four methods of scoring points.

    1. Try putting the ball down over the opposition line.= 5 points

    2. Conversion= (kick taken after a try has been scored)= 2 points

    3. Penalty= if an offense has been committed the opposition have the chance to kick at goal= 3 points

    4. drop goal= in open play a player can drop kick the ball over the posts for three points.

when kicking for goal, the ball must bisect the uprights to for the kick to be sucessful.

    Other rules include:

you must pass the ball backwards.

you cant tackle above the shoulder line.

    Yellow and Red Cards

When given a yellow card a player must leave the field for ten minutes before returning. yellow cards are given for offences such as persistent offsides etc.

A red card means the player is off for the rest of the game and cannot be replaced. A red card can be given for a forcibly punch, kick, stamp, headbutt etc.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Make sure you know whether you will be playing union or league. Now that I've said that I'm going to give you some links and vids I've found helpful for union:

http://www.videojug.com/film/armchair-fa... (check out all the vids in that section)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEQyCcage...

http://www.rugbyfootball.com/home.html (go to the beginners section)

There are countless other sites that are good as well, but these should help for now. Just go surfing.

  5. you should have a look at the BBC Sport website, which gives a good run down of the laws of Rugby Union and League, gives information about the positions and eqipment you might need

  6. Simple when getting the ball  try to out run your oppenent with out getting tackled and 2 things run straight or around your player and never never drop the ball!
