I just want a general idea of how to begin to write a lesson plan for pre-school and kindergarten children. A numbered list of keypoints would give me a general idea on what to expect. Thanks.

  1. I start my lesson plans in September with colors - choose one - say red, for instance, we will color an apple red, then we will do a red craft - such as paint a red fire truck - we will sing red songs, have a snack and have free choice centers out.  Next day is blue - paint bluebirds and stick on blue feathers - green, turtles - etc.

  2. Depends on the lesson. Start off with something easy, then go beyond that. e.g. A picture of a tree; Talk about what the tree looks like.

  3. I also agree that you need to start with your objective or what you want the children to learn/develop. (problem solving skills, sharing, classifying objects, preliteracy skills, book concepts, color or shape recognition etc...)

Then you have to individualize to what your children are interested in and what will be meaningful to them. I don't teach outerspace much because my students have no experience with outerspace in their everyday lives. In my rural area I use farms as a theme often since the kids see them on a daily basis.

Remember to individualize your lessons for all the children so that the advanced students and not so advanced can all be successful. As well as include visuals and repetitive language if you have any English as a second language students.

With younger students you will need to use lots of concrete manipulatives- real objects, pictures, videos, things the kids can touch. (farm- bring in corncobs, chicken feathers)

And it is always good to have something that you can send home with the children to use with their parents at home to continue the learning. Parents are a child's first and best teacher!

    Good luck!

  4. first u need to choose a topic. for example, festivals. then u talk about what festivals mean, the different festivals there are. then choose maybe 2 or 3 important ones and zoom into them one by one. eg. xmas, what it's about, the customs, the food, the presents, and if u want to make it more interesting, prepare some little gifts u can give ur students (just wrap little chocolates as gifts for everyone so u can get in the mood) make a little xmas paper tree and put all the gifts under the tree. have some pics of xmas, costumes, prepare a cd of some songs of diff festivals to play at the start of the class to get in the festivity mood and also to make the students have an idea of what ur about to do in class.

    have fun! =)

  5. I would always start with your objective.  What is it the children will learn from this lesson. For example I did a lesson today on Football and The Super Bowl with my k class.  My objective would be that I want to teach the children sportsmanship and what it means to be a team player and this will help to develop socialisation skills and cooperative learning.

I also always read a book in each lesson I teach that is related to the lesson!!!! I think that is important and really helps the childen understand whatever it is you are teaching them.

    Hope this helps..
