I just joined a league and I'm slightly confused. How do the points work with running backs, quarter backs, kickers, tight ends, defenses, and receivers? What are the basics of how to play? Is it good to get a running back as your first pick? my draft is in a week or so

  1. Your best bet would be to grab a fantasy football magazine. They have great in-depth articles on what the game is all about. I will give you an overview, but without knowing your scoring rules and roster size it's difficult to give detailed advice.

Fantasy football is where you gain (or lose!) points based on how the players do during the week. Say for instance that you have a running back who gets 87 yards and a touchdown. In leagues with standard scoring you'd get 14 points - 8 for the yardage (1 point per 10 yards rushing) and 6 points for the touchdown. You would take all the points garnered by your starting lineup and compare them to whomever you are competing against. You either get the win or the loss.

You then get a win-loss record and can get into playoffs just like in the real NFL.

Fantasy football is fun and makes even uninteresting matchups worth watching.

As to whom to choose as your first pick, it depends on your draft position, scoring system and what has been picked before you. Running backs are generally picked first, but that's because it is the position with the lowest amount of premium talent.

Read some magazines, go to sites like www.footballguys.com and read, read, read! Have fun!

  2. 1 most important rule- draft your kicker in the last round; if you don't you'll regret it.
