What are the basics questions to ask and wat do i look out for in schools for my five year old.?

  1. This will depend on your five year old.

    Is he/she a bit of a struggler? No interest in reading yet, doesn't know any letters, can't count? Then you want a school with plenty of TAs and which is enthusiastic about helping less able pupils to develop - and, frankly, which doesn't make a huge thing about how all its pupils get level 4 at the end of year 6.

    Is he/she bright and intelligent, can already read fluently and do simple sums? Then you forget the level 4 percentages they'll show you for their SATs results and ask to see how many of their kids get level 5 - and also what their policy is where a kid can already do something that the rest of the class need to learn. I walked away from our nearest primary on the basis of this answer alone - the head's answer to "what do you do with kids who can already read" was "our policy is that children do not read in reception".


  2. look online at the school reports etc.... you can tell by this if the school is any good.

    you could also ask about bullying policies they may or may not have.
