  1. Point Guard

    Shooting Guard

    Small Forward

    Power Forward

    Center

  2. point gurad, Shooting guard, Small Forward, Power FOward, Center.

    6th man 7th man 8th man ETC

  3. point guard: first line of defense. stops dribble penetration, and protects the perimeter. on offense uses clock management must be aware of the plays the coach has called and if that play breaks down create offense on the fly finding the open man and slashers cutting into the paint. distributes the ball to get the best and easiest bucket. must be a good free throw shooter as well, as a pg must attack the paint and get fouled and convert free throws.

shooting guard: looks for passing lanes for steals and prevent penetration into the paint. also guards the best shooter on the opposing team in most cases. fight through screens, defend against outside shots. on offense is usually the teams best shooter. passes when double teamed and must be able to make shots off the dribble, mid-range shots, three point shots, free throws, basically he's the scorer. but must not force shots or disrupt the offense by ignoring the offesive set.

small forward: like a jack of all traits but master of none. needs to be able to cover the 1, 2, and 3 positions on defense. ususally a slasher and proficiant 3pts shooter. usually the second best playmaker. looks for steals and weak side rebounds.

power frorward: rebound. intimidate players attacking the rim. blocks shots on the weakside and must be a solid low-post and 9ft to 10ft range scorer to free up outside shooters and give room for the center to opporate close to the basket. pass out of double teams. make solid screens for shooters on the team and then run towards the basket for offensive rebound.

center: last line of defense. must be aware of dribble penetration. be a soild shot blocker and an intimidating pressense on offense and defense. best low post threat. able to pass out of double teams and initiate fast break oppotunities after the defensive rebound. and secure misses for offensive rebounds. usually the weakest free throw shooter so being able to finish at the rim while getting fouled is a must for centers. rebound , rebound, rebound, both offensive and defensive rebounds. must have great hand for catching passes and lobs towards the rim.

sixth man: ususally a pace changer or a threat towards the opposing teams. this can vary based on match-ups or foul trouble. but is usually a utility player with multiple skills. the rest of the bench is usually made up of specialist. shooters, rebounders, passers... all depending on what is needed at any perticular moment.

these are all traditional roles as the players of today are skilled in more than one trait. centers shoot three's (okur of utah for example) or are player makers at the power forward and small forward position (K. Garnett of boston or LeBron James of cleveland).

    i hope this helps.

    have a good weekend.

  4. 1.POINT GUARD: [1 guard, playmaker]- brings the ball up, and makes the plays.

2.SHOOTING GUARD:[2 guard]- usually plays the wing, and shoots, sometimes plays point guard too

3.POWER FOWARD- usually a big and tall person who can rebound and post

4.SMALL FOWARD: tall but not as big as the power foward, still plays an important role as a post player though and is critical to rebounding also.

5.CENTER: does the jump ball, and sometimes plays the power foward

  5. I explain it to you in brief; ( The positions are also called by the numbers I've put before them)

1- PG (Point Guard): He is the team's playmaker, brings the ball to the other team's court, begins the offensive play and plans it. He can perform as a shooter and scorer, but his main skill is passing. No special defensive duty, maybe sometimes stealing the ball.

2 & 3- SG (Shooting Guard) and SF (Small Forward): I describe them together cuz their duties and way of playing are almost the same. They should carry almost most of the team's offensive burden, specially outside plays. These players should be able to score, shoot, dunk, somehow pass the ball, and should do a little rebound. Also thees players don't have a high defensive chore, but not as little as PG. Should help team defense, maybe with steals (mainly) and defensive rebounding.

4- PF (Power Forward): They are usually tall players who should play both defense and Offense. In Attacking, they are expected to score inside (Generally in the paint), grab offensive rebounds, dunk, help PG, SG and SF in order to be able to penetrate by pick & roll and much more plays. They can also act as a far field goal shooter.  The have many defensive duties; Rebounding, blocking the ball, acting as an obstacle (!) along with stealing the ball are some of them.

5- C (Center): They're usually the tallest players in their team. Offensively, They must score inside, dunk, and make places for others to score more easily and generally should own the basket. Their defensive task is more remarkable. Blocking and rebounding and being as an obstacle are some of them. In other words, they're like goalkeepers in soccer and look after team's basket so that less points can be gained by the other team.

  6. pg- distribute the ball to the other players

    sg- shoots the ball

smallf- sticks defense mostly and tries to do both post up and shooting

power forward - get rebounds blocks and tries to score

center- postes up and tries to stick on the players
