What are the bees called that are red with black wings?

Are they dangerous? They kept coming around me when I was in my pool and I had to go in. =[

What you saw may actually have been a paper wasp/red wasp and not a bee.

Paper wasps are 3/4 to 1 inch long, slender, narrow-waisted wasps with smoky black wings that are folded lengthwise when at rest. Body coloration is overall reddish-brown

They can sting  you, but are not dangerous and only cause pain like a standard bee sting. However some people may be sensitive/allergic to the stings of this insect, and so may be fatal.
