  1. If foreigners can buy land they can build businesses that will create jobs.

When they can't the land goes undeveloped and no one benefits.

Leasing has proved to be another scam for the rich and gov.

  2. none.

  3. Benefits for whom?  If a Filipino wants to buy a house in America, there's no problem.  If an American wants to buy a house in The Philippines, it can't be done.  Even at the inflated, swindler prices you want.  Thats the gratitude for saving your collective a.s.s.es more than once in the past. When the muslims or chinese or koreans take over and enslave you, who you gonna call?

  4. It will bring investment and jobs.  This is an archaic law, most other countires allow foreigners to own land.  Many Filipinos own land in the USA or Europe, so why can't Europeans and Americans own land in the Philippines?

This law protects interests of the rich Filipinos and harms the average Filipino.

  5. None in the long run, all the Filipinos will get evicted by the Koreans, the Japanese and the Westerners. The average pinoy can't even afford to buy a piece of land and it is already happening now illegally (Hanjin buying forest and ancestral land in Subic). So mostly we'll end up squatting in our own land while the foreigners will lead comfy lives profiting from it.

  6. The people of the Philippines would find that it creates jobs just like the people of Mexico did.  After the investments come in it is then up to the Philippine people to see that the politicians do not steal it.  I would like to open a several small business' in the Philipines since I have lived here for a number of years, but I am not interested in investing in a business when I cannot have the land title in my name and can only own 40 percent of the corporation.  I have friends here that have taken the chance and invested 100 percent of the funds to open a business and only have 40 percent legal ownership and no ownership of the land, but I am not that bold.

I have never understood what the Philippine people are afraid of.  Foreigners cannot take the land with them, when and if, they leave the Philippines.  After reading a few of the replies I think that some are afraid they will not be able to afford rents, etc. established by foreigners, but that is not a valid argument because the market determines the rental rates and high end housing is already here to support the foreigners in the Philippines. All the present laws governing ownership of land in the Philippines only guarantee certain wealthy Philippines families will continue to become even more wealthy.  It does nothing for the average Philippine person.
