Im looking to purchase a new camera, and have narrowed my choice down to two. One of them has 1 ccd and the other has 3, but the one with 1 chip has the cinelook or whatever its called. If I want my movies to look like movies instead of just home videos, what camera should I buy?

  1. I just recently also looked into what your asking. I had to decided whether to buy a consumer camcorder at a local store like best buy or circuit city or go for a more expensive camcorder that would make me feel and look like a professional. If I had to buy a consumer camcorder I would go with the canon vixia HV30 you can get one at best buy for around 800 dollars it films in hd on a small mini dv tape. The camcorder I bought and would recommend to you for the 3 chip would be the panasonic dvx100b you can get one on ebay for around 2000 dollars. The dvx100b is a standard definition camcorder and the Canon HV30 is an high definition camcorder the difference between the 2 is that the dvx100b films in 24p which is a frame speed that movie cameras run at so your footage will have a film like look to it while the HV30 will have better quality with the HV you will achieve a more tv like look instead of a film like look.. The dvx100b is the best affordable camcorder on the market if your looking for a film like look I believe.

but hey don't just listen to me here is two links

cnet.com is the best review website and if you read the reviews and research you will find the camcorder in your price range that you are looking for.

  3. Im sorry to tell you but the cinelook WONT make your videos better. Its how you shoot your video that makes it look like the movies. Any way the benefits of most 3 CCD cameras are they have 3 sensors that each capture their own color. Red, Blue, And green. So you get better color quality(sometimes), but not necessarily better image quality! Also, If your buying a palm sized camera, most three chips on these produce lesser quality that most single CMOS sensors. If I were you, I would go with CMOS because the color and image quality are generaly better than 1 or some times 3 CCD. Remember though! Its not how many sensors, image and color quality are effected by sensor size and how many megapixels. For a realy good CMOS camera, i would recomend the Sony HDR-SR12. http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stor...                    Hope I helped!

  4. The derived "cinema-like" imitations are just that - and very obvious that they are truly not 24p. If you really want the cinema look, then you need to get a camcorder that can record in true 24p... Canon HV20, HV30, XHA1, Sony HVR V1U, Z1U, Panasonic DVX100B, HDX200... There are others, but this is a good start.

Whether 1 or 3 CCD or 1 or 3 CMOS, the TOTAL LARGEST area of imaging chips will provide you the best video quality... especially for lowlight situations. 24p and the imaging chips are sort of not related. 24p is 24 progressive (or complete) frames per second which is different from normal 60i video (which translates to 30 frames per second that are inter-leaved rather than captured as a complete frame).

Personally, I would be looking at the Canon XHA1 or Sony HVR-Z1U... I just got a Sony HDR-FX1 (the Z1U's prosumer sibling), because 24p was not interesting to me - and I have juicedLink and BeachTek XLR adapters so I don't need the built-in XLR connectors (and I can bypass the internal mic-preamps that are much better on the juicedLink box).
