  1. The benefits of a job description for child care are the same as any other job description - it lets both the employer and  the employee know what is expected of them.  Job descriptions in the child care field can vary.  There are directors, lead teachers, assistant teachers, aides and volunteers.  Each of these roles will come with a specific set of expectations - not the least among them will be the level of education and experience.  Lead teachers are generally responsible for observing and assessing the children, planning curriculum, implementing curriculum, setting up the learning environment and communicating with parents, in addition to wiping noses, tying shoes and making sure there are plenty of paper towels handy!  And in every job description there will always be that final phrase -  "In addition to the duties of this job description, the employee will be expected to perform all other duties as assigned."

  2. Kat's covered this one adequately.  A good job description is a great training tool for applicants.  A lot of people think that they are going to have a fun time playing with the children all day.

Many don't stop and think about things like cleaning the bathroom, emptying the trash cans, or that when you least expect it some child will barf in the block box.
