  1. Shock absorber of course absorb the shock, but when you play the shock absorber plays a very big role.  Having the absorber on makes hitting the ball much more solid and you will have better control.  I recommend everyone to have shock absorbers.  They really work.  However, some pros don't use absorbers because they sometimes pop out, and during a important match it really sucks.  So if you don't want your absorber to pop out you can use a rubber-band and tie the absorber to the string.

  2. What everyone else said is right. The problem is that they take away a little bit of the feel when touch shots are made.

If you're a power player, use a dampener, so that it can absorb the vibration after a shot.

But if you're a touch player, stay away from them or use a smaller dampener (rubber bands, worm dampeners, etc), because you won't be able to hit shots with pin-point accuracy.

  3. The only benefit of a shock absorber is that it makes it feel less violent. Many people think that it makes the racquet play differently but in reality, its just that the feel changes soo much that they THINK the racquet plays differently.

It really makes no different as far as performance. Its all about comfort so try a few before you decide.

    good luck

  7. it takes away that weird shaky feeling in your racket after a swing. Feels more solid when swung they are good to use
