I recently came across one at a wholesale store and wonder if anyone (who owns one) could give me a quick review. Can you give a definite better/worse rating compared to windmill-type fans, or is there a breakdown of pros/cons you can give me. Also, can you recomend/avert me to any models you have used.

I'm trying not to give in and suck my power company dry with an air conditioner. Any help is MUCH appreciated.

  1. As far as I know they give more air but are noisier. I have one and like it.

  2. I got a used Lasko brand tower fan at a local thrift store, and we really like it. It is quieter, more effective, and much better looking than the old “windmill-type fans” that we had been using. I won’t be going back to those. When purchased new, the tower fans are, unfortunately, more expensive than the box or windmill, but after having gotten this one, when it is time for me to buy a new fan, I will gladly pay a little more for the tower type…for the reasons I listed above. Also, my mother-in-law has a Hawaiian Breeze brand one and it works well too.

  3. ~~I love ours. They take up very little space, are very quiet to operate, low energy consumption, ours have a remote which is awesome for changing settings. I love them so much I have replaced our other fans. I keep one in the kitchen too, all the difference in the world when you are cooking and cleaning. No table space needed, they stand on their own.~~

  4. Our tower fan has been a wonderful addition to our house.  The foot print is smaller than most fans.  It oscillates to provide breeze to the entire house.  It is quieter than a normal fan. (even on high) Less likely to have someone get their fingers in the blade because the cover has much smaller holes but moves a lot of air.

  5. The Eiffel Tower.
