What are the benefits of an Irish Passport? Can I work in USA and France, no visa?

Is it true I can live in any country in the world with my Irish passport without having to gt a visa or the equivalent?

Am I correct in saying that I can move to France and work legally with my Irish passport (from South Africa - dual citizenship Irish/SA)

Do I need to declare anything when I come into France, or do I just walk through and start working?

The US? Can I just move there?

  2. You'll need to get work visas in both France and the USA

  3. With an Irish passport you should be able to work in France or just about anywhere within the European Union.

On the other hand it is completely false that you can live in any country in the world without a visa just because you have an Irish passport. I don't know where you got that info from but again, it's completely untrue.

For example, you cannot live in the US without a visa. Since you have an Irish passport, you may travel in the US visa-free for up to 90 days but that's it. You may not work or study. For anything beyond a 90-day visit for tourist purposes in the US, you must have a visa.

If you intend on moving to France, I would advise you several things:

    1) Find a job before you move -- unless you have a reserve of cash money you can live on until you do find a job

    2) Speak French - you'll be hard-pressed to find a job in France without that

    3) You should still register yourself with local authorities as a resident.

I strongly advise you to contact the embassy of France in whichever country you are currently in and they can fill you in on the details.

And here's a good forum for you:
