What are the benefits of arranged marriages?

Consider:  When two strangers meet and marry, there is often discord between the families.  Sometimes, the married couple moves away or refuses to interact with parts of the family.  

Arranged marriages allow families to plan their eventual merger.  Historically, arranged marriages were used by monarchs to create familial ties that bound together empires.

The two people do not have to make the "choice" of who to marry. While for many this would seem weird, I would submit that they start their lives without the "baggage" of knowing where or whom they've been with in the past.
