Can any gymnast tell me the reason you pick this sports? I am not sure if I want my daughter (or son) to do this... why?
1. No long term prospective - seems like all players retired at a young age.
2. Extremely high risk of injury - i don't understand what can benefit from walking and tumbling on a tiny beam in the mid air?? what is the practicality of these skills?
3. Pressure - Gymnasts go through rigerous training since young age - seem the entire sports only gear towards one thing - competition. i dont hear people become gymnast just for fun?? i play tennis all my life (playing 30 years now) i enjoy it very much and i never have any injury, can a gymnast say that?
4. Odd body shape - when i watch the Olympics, most sports produce beautiful body shapes, like swimming, volleyball, even basketball, tennis, baseball players have nice body shape. all the gymnasts have this really squat, short, bulk muscles, uneven shape, and the girls all look like have chicken chests to me? it is not very attractive at all.
I can understand people play water polo or diving because he/she likes the water, likes to swim, so even when their diving career is over, they can still enjoy swim or dive for fun. Gymnastic is very specialized, again, seems to me only for competition. Can a retire gymnast pick up the sports again "just for fun" without getting hurt?
I am trying to understand the logic to get involved in this sports - why should i let my kids participate a sports has such a limited life spam with strenuous training and extremely high pressure? Gymnasts, help me understand this, thank you.
