If we use just a regular antenna to watch tv and we only get like, 1 or 2 stations and one is kinda fuzzy...will this switch to digital make a difference in the clarity of these local stations?? (Yes, I do understand I have to get a converter...I mean once I have the converter hooked up...) Thanks!!

  1. First, in most areas there are already digital broadcasts, it's not something that is happening in the future.

What is happening on 2/17/09 is that most analog TV transmitters will be shut down, so after then you will not have a choice in the matter (unless you get TV from translator stations. they may remain analog for a while).

If you buy a good converter (like the latest Zenith/Insignia or RCA models) you will get a better picture quality when things are working, but there is a good chance that the channel that is fuzzy now will suffer from signal interruptions/breakups. If this happens you will need a better antenna.

It's best to get a coupon & buy a converter box early, that way you can figure out if you need a better antenna.

If the two station that you get now a VHF (2-13), you may have another problem. Many of these stations are switching to UHF (channels 14-51) for digital broascasts. UHF TV signals are inherently shorter range than VHF.

  2. more channels better picture
