  1. Main reason i do it is protect my self and get fitter but its get me off the sofa and meeting people so that's always a good thing

I would recommend doing any for of martial art but you get out of it what you put in

  2. Flexibility, fitness, making new friends, co-ordination, using your mind...

  3. loads, fitness, raised self esteem, confidence.the ability/confidence to walk away from a situation which could escalate. meeting strangers and making new friends etc.

  4. Self-Defense

    Self-Confidence

    Self-Mastery

    good workout

    social outlet

I started (again) at 36.  One of the best things I ever did for myself.

  5. Physical exercise,

    Cardio-exercise,

    Learn self defense,

    Get out of the house,

    Weight reduction/maintenence,

    How's that for a start?

  6. get fitter an good self deffence.i do shaolin kung fu an its brilliant

  7. It is never to late to start.

Perhaps it is to late to take it up for the sake of competition, and perhaps you will never learn those fancy moves that you see overly gymnastic practisioners do in movies (but that you never see in any practical situation, be it competition or self-defence), but you can always take it up as the fascinating art it is.

It is one 'activity' that you can continue with even if you are way past the "competetive" age.

I've seen much, MUCH older persons get black-belts. It is hard, but far from impossible.

And regarding the "perhaps", that is exactly what they are. You never know until you try. Go for it. If you decide you don't like it, you only wasted some time, that otherwise might have been spent in front of the TV.

I started karate at 34 years old and iaido at 36!

  8. self defense and great cardiovascular.

  9. it's a great way to protect yourself insted of being an idiot and carrying a knife or something

  10. FUN!

Go along, enjoy yourself.  Live the buzz!

Everything else is a side effect.

  11. Workout, meet new people, being able to potentially defend your self, aging slower/being healthy because exercising regularly does do your body and mind good (mens sana in corpore sano), building muscular mass, I don't know there are a lot of benefits and little disadvantages like maybe having to pay every month or spending time you could use somewhere else, but if it is something you want to do, then it's not a waist of time or money. So there are not really disadvantages

  12. its a good cardio workout and just because ur 30 doesn't mean your not gonna get jumped at some stage in your life later i recommend taekwon do its a military art
