  1. If a parent meets the teacher(s) of his/her children, that opens the door for the support the kids need in getting the best education possible.  I have taught many kids who have had uninvolved parents, and by and large, these kids perform poorly compared to the ones whose parents are involved in their learning.  Parent teacher conferences are really important, because parents will know what they can do to help their kids succeed.  Also, if parents participate in the lives of their kids then they will be setting an example that will let the kids know how important it is to get an education.

Having parents participate in the outings in the capacity of a chaperon is often a really good way for them to see their kids around their friends, and get some insight into their friendships.  It is also a good way to help the kids to see that you are willing to do whatever you can to make their educational experience successful.

  2. Some Teachers give extra credit if you bring your parents on certain days and what not. But other than making the school look good, the child gains nothing toward his education, except the child gains Parents that know whats going on in his school...
