What are the benefits of self ligating braces?

Example: Damon 3 or in ovation

and if you know, what are the price ranges for them because i've been going to consultations and I don't want to get ripped off especially when I only have a mild case

I have, actually had as of two days ago, the Damon braces.

They cost alot... I don't really know exactly b/c my parents/ insurance paid for it, but I think it was about $3,500. The advantage is that they hurt less (I don't have any thing to compare to since I've never had non self ligating braces, but they didn't hurt too bad.

They're also faster, they really did get my teeth into the right position quickly, about a year or so, but I didn't wear my rubber bands as well as I should have, so that year turned into two. :-(

So whatever you do, wear those rubber bands...
