  1. Not a question of benefits surely. In medicine we spent first 18 months studying anatomy and physiology. As I said its not so much a benefit, its the relevance that matters.

good reason, unless you know the structure of an organ and how it functions, how can you know when its abnormal in its anatomy and pathological in its function?

pathology was next 18 months. That's when we covered all malfunctions, diseases, etc etc.

  2. I took physiology but have never taken anatomy, and it would have helped me a great deal if I'd taken them together or at least anatomy first. In my experience, taking physiology alone was sort of like driving through a foreign country without a map.

A good understanding of anatomy would have helped with directional terms, such as distal/proximal, lateral, ventral/dorsal, etc., and with general orientation of all the body's systems. Sometimes I didn't understand a key word during lecture and got lost along the way. Physiology moves very fast and ties together all the systems, and without a basic understanding, it can become complicated very quickly.

I HIGHLY recommend taking anatomy first or alongside physiology. BTW -- what is your major?
