  1. It will help you alot in college. However if you don't plan on going to college I'm not sure what purpose it serves you.

  2. Calculus is used in a number of jobs, including ones involving advanced science, ones trying to determine things like way to design something so that it costs the least or uses the least amount of raw materials.  Calculus is really about solving two basic sorts of math problems:  finding the area of strange shapes (such as ones with curves in them) and figuring out the rate at which something is changing (such as the rate that the speed of a car changes as it speeds up, slows down or stops).

If you are going to take science in college, it is often much easier if you've had calculus already.  Calculus can also help you in economics courses and some other subjects, too.

Some more prestigious colleges consider any math below beginning calculus to be remedial, meaning that easier math doesn't count for credit towards graduation.  Usually calculus taken at the high school level is easier, going at a slower pace, than calculus taken in college.  So, even if you end up taking calculus again at college, it will be a lot easier if you've already had calculus in high school.

A word of warning:  When I was in high school, a math teacher warned our class that calculus would be difficult to understand at first, that we would be able to do the problems but would probably feel that we didn't really get why we were doing these problems, what the point of them was.  The teacher warned that most everyone feels that way at first but that if you stick it out, it will eventually all make sense.  Everyone in my class found the advice helpful, as we weren't inclined to quit the class when others were.

  3. Calculus is a prerequisite for many classes in college.  It's best to get it done in high school if you can.
