  1. I'm not aware of any specific 'cases'. but I am sure it has helped thousands who have or will experience financial problems. I am more concerned about 'welfare' for the rich. the litle 1/16th of a penny to help welfare recipients means little to the contents of my wallet. If you are really interested in 'welfare', call your local agency and ask how much of your tax dollar goes towards helping the poor. Then call your senator and ask how much 'welfare' is earmarked for big business.

  2. I can tell you a couple stories:

me:  I left an abusive relationsip.  I am in college for nursing, so it was either give that up and go back to McD or go for my dream.  Without welfare I would have had to drop out because there is no way I could be a single mom, and work Ft and school FT.  It has helped me take a Phlebotomy class to get my license and as soon as the internship and exam is done, I can have a job that I can work part time, pay the bills on my own and finish school.

Another girl:  A housewife got divorced and the dad ran and hid from child support.  She had 4 young children and no where to go.  She didn't have much education and hadn't worked in awhile because her husband wouldn't allow it.  She had to get welfare for a brief time.  Now she is a top employee at the IRS.  Without welfare her and her children would have been on the streets begging for food.

Welfare is good because it helps you out in times that you can not get by.  It also helps you help yourself, by (in most states) requiring 20-32 hours depending on the state of work or school per week.  They provide child care while you are doing that as well.  You get mileage so you can make it to your activity.  It is a great help and if you utilize it to the best you can, you can become great and doors that were otherwise closed, now come flying open.

  3. As a temporary measure to help someone, welfare provides food, shelter, and clothing until a person is able to resume their responsibilities of taking care  of themselves.  That was the originial intent of welfare.  Now it's used to keep generations of people in a child like state where big daddy is taking care of them; not within benefit to big daddy.
