If you like traveling, would you wait for someone to go with you to places you would like to visit, or would you go it alone? What are suggestions to make traveling alone more enjoyable?

  1. I generally travel alone and love it as I can do, go anywhere, anytime.  Downside is that it can be dangerous and you need to use extreme caution.  There are certain places you just shouldn't go to alone.  Be prepared to make friends as you travel and that can sometimes help.  Again, use caution - if you don't have a well developed sense of stranger danger I would advise against the practice.

  2. You can travel by yourself if you don't have anyone to do with you. And when you have someone, you go together. But don't wait for someone else if you like traveling.

I have done both and enjoy both the same. When I travel by myself, I feel really free. I decide when to get up, when to eat, how long to stay, etc. When you travel with someone, you need to make the trip pleasant for both, so some times you end up doing things you wouldn't necessarily be doing if you were all by yourself. But, when you are with someone you care about, you enjoy their company.

When traveling alone, I always carry my ipod and a book with me. Oh, and my camera!

  3. I hitchhiked about 40,000 miles locally in Michigan and across the USA between my ages 15 and 21. I only had a buddy on one of those trips.

I never had to ask anyone else when to stop, where to eat or whether we should change route or destination.

Yes, it was scary sometimes, but it allowed me to travel lighter and faster. I wouldn't want to do it in a country where I did not speak the language.

You would have to be really compatible with someone to travel great distances with them. Just an issue about how much silence can you tolerate can be divisive.

You can't go to Tahiti unless you take Tahiti with you.
