  1. In Indian culture, tumeric is used internally as well as topically.

  2. It's a good antioxidant... that's about it. When taken internally, it can help with liver health, but it wouldn't have much benefit for that when taken externally.

If you've seen it in cosmetics, it's there for one of two reasons... it's an antioxidant (maybe chosen for the color while having the antioxidant properties) or because they are trying to add herbals to their formula because it's a current trend (lots of beauty aids are adding herbals to their products). Whatever the case may be, you'd likely get more benefits if it had the same quantity of Vitamin C in it instead.

If you're looking to help with scars and want something external, you could use some Vitamin E liquid (applied evenly to all areas as you don't want to overdo it). Also, you could take some supplements internally to help the health of your skin. Some of the most popular ones are Biotin, Silica (commonly from Horsetail), Squalene, Hyaluronic Acid, MSM, L-Cysteine, Collagen, and most antioxidants.

    Good luck!

  3. I use tumeric strictly for colour.  For removing scars you need oils such as borage, argan and evening primrose applied topically.
