What are the benefits to children's learning of knowing about their own background and community?

  1. They become more accepting of others since they understand that everyone comes from a different world. They get to live life in peace perhaps, looking at individuals pass their skin color etc... I simply just think it allows room for even more socialization without any type of problems- regarding race, color, or any other stereotypes that bring about racism etc...


  2. Children should have a distinct sense of identity before they are exposed to other cultures.  If they do not, they can be easily confused on nearly any issue regarding culture.  Children with a distinct sense of heritage and identity, are happier, healthier, and more confident.

    I've seen kindegarten children being taught spanish without even knowing the meaning and origin of kindergarten.
