What are the best .338 win mag bullets?

i am going to be sighting in a rifle in a few weeks for my dad and i was wondering what is the best .338 win mag shells are and where to buy (not online please)

I have been using various rounds in 338 Win Mag for many years.  I am a long time Alaskan hunter.

I normally handload all my 338 and for my friends.  When my friends use up my ammo - their next choice has been the Winchester Combined Technology ones - these have a silver ballistic tip and partition design.

This is a super design.  The little plastic tip hides a big hollow point hole - so the bullet flies better than a normal hollow point.  The partition design means when the bullet mushrooms - if the 'shrooms break off the bullet does not break apart also - it has a copper partition that keep the back of the bullet moving into the muscle, bones and vital organs for big game.  These CT bullets pack quite a whallop in 338.

338 ammo is not cheap, and, not much fun to shoot - so - you should buy a box of what ever is cheapest to start the sight in process.  Then finish with the Winchester CT's and them for hunting.

I also recommend buying some women's fingernail topcoat - nylon or teflon - and add a little to the junction of the bullet/brass and around the primer pocket.  This will make your rounds waterproof - properly done, you can store the bullets in a thermos of hot coffee all day long and they will still fire in late afternoon.  I have done this to demonstrate how wonderful doing this hunting rounds are!

my Rem. 700 BDL-DM shoots Winchester Supreme Ballistic Silver Tips very well. Guns very in what shoots best in them. I would recommend trying different brands and weights. If one ammunition doesn't shoot well don't blame the gun. Try a different brand/weight.

well if he is target shooting the heavier match bullets like berger vld's would work great for shooting and for hunting very large game such as elk but if he i is just gonna shoot it at the range here and there and scare everyone away so he can get the range to himself he should use cheap fmj's so it will throw flames from the barrel and burn the targets
