  1. Do not, I repeat, do NOT go to Cancun.  You may not get hassled by the locals but you'll have to deal with obnoxious, drunken college students which is far farrrrrrrr worse.

  2. Check with the U.S. department of State .

They post travel warnings Americans traveling abroad.

  3. I would recommend La Paz or Loreto.

  4. PUEBLA

  5. Depends on what you think of hassle:

    - Obnoxious, noisy, rude and idiotic spring-breakers that damage hotel installations and never give any tips.

    - Guerrilleros and marchistas

    - Typical corrupt cops that will invent you did something just to get an easy bribe because you can't speak spanish.

    - Men that like to grope women or at least whistle at them if they're lucky

    - Street vendors harassing you every 5 minutes.

    - Soccer mom drivers that ride huge SUV's. Nuff said.

    etc...

If street vendors is something you hate, avoid Acapulco. You'll instantly get sick and tired of the word "trenzitas" (hair braids) in 5 minutes. Doesn't matter if you already had your hair done, they'll just keep on coming again and again. Sorry, I just don't like Acapulco that much at all. >_<

Guerrillero types generally don't directly bother tourists, it's everyone else that they like to bother by blocking major streets and avenues causing wonderful traffic. If you're unlucky, you'll bump into a manifestación where they are parading naked on the street. *shudders* Very common in Mexico City.

A lot of rude drivers in Mexico City. Soccer moms are the worst drivers ever.

You'll probably find gropers and female (and believe it or not, male harassers too) harassers anywhere though I sometimes get an average of 2-3 albures phrases a day myself. ¬¬ It's most annoying when a cop does it.

Mexico City isn't what it used to be. Might be still worth a 1 week trip though if you don't mind chaos.

  6. I also say Guadalajara we've been traveling there for many years. Cancun is beautiful but you need to go when college students aren't on their trip. Which usually are the spring breaks or graduating trips. Even though where they see any American from USA they try to get the most out of you as far as money wise they try to sell you the things at the most expensive price. Be alert and have fun whichever your destination will be

  7. Best places: Monterrey, San Miguel de Allende, Acapulco, Tampico, Puebla.

    Worst: Mexico City, Tijuana, Reynosa

  8. The Worst Place Right Now Is Mexico City.

My Uncles Wife Family Lives Up There And They Say ITs Bad.

They Dont Even Want To Go There.

  9. Guanajuato in the state of Guanajuato is the most beautiful city I've ever visited.  It's really chill, has INCREDIBLE colonial architecture, great cafes and outdoor restaurants, good performing arts venues, and you don't see alot of non-mexican tourists.  I used to live there.  One thing though, there aren't alot of folks there who speak english.  So that may be a factor.

  10. I would recommend Guadalajara, as it is a modern city that offers all of the entertainment and amenities that a city in the United States and Canada does, as well as the authentic Mexican culture that one looks for in an international experience.  When in this city you will not sense that you are in an artificial world created for and invaded by tourists, but rather that you are seeing real Mexico for itself. However, you will also certainly not feel isolated as you perhaps would in a very rural location. Although one should always keep his or her safety and security in mind, from my own travels to Guadalajara and from what I have been made to understand it is in fact a rather safer destination than, say, Mexico City.

  11. There is no city in the world that is hassle free. Spring break coming up, so the boutique beach hotels on both Mexican coasts are full of drunken nut cases. Colonial cities like Puebla and Morelia might be the best.
